Don't even think of changing your beloved LP12 for something else!

Just give it a "Sole"

The "Sole" sub-chassis upgrade for the Linn Sondek is an extremely cost effective means of improving your turntable at a realistic price.  Many owners have reaped the benefits of this upgrade and have been amazed with the phenomenal improvement rendered at such low cost.

There are now many alternative "third party" sub-chassis to choose from and most if not all, will give you a different sound to the original pressed steel sub-chassis, even Linn's Keel will sound strikingly different and more modern to the steel chassisThe Sole provides more than 80% of the performance of the Keel, but costs much less, something important to remember when making your choice.

Fitting the unique Sole sub-chassis will provide the underpinning for the very important main bearing-tonearm interface, thereby creating the basis for an amazing boost in the performance of your LP12. The Sole enhances the intrinsic musical nature of this iconic turntable, providing great insight into the music being transcribed. Bass rendition becomes much more tuneful, less bloated and much better defined; transients are far more dynamic and realistic, cymbals shimmer with delightful clarity and imaging improves dramatically throughout  an extended sound stage, treble is sweetened & extended significantly as well. But don't just take our word for it,  please read our customer feedback.

The Sole sub-chassis is carefully crafted on a constrained layer principle from structural grade aluminium and mdf bonded together with high tech aerospace adhesive, completing the structure is a highly accurate CNC machined bearing housing. The Sole provides a flat, rigid and acoustically inert platform on which to mount your main bearing* and arm-board.

* Standard & Cirkus bearings are accomodated.

How can the sub-chassis make such a difference to the quality of sound reproduced by a turntable? The Sole by nature of its construction, is  very well damped acoustically, it simply does not resonate anywhere near as much as the steel chassis. Thee decay of vibration in the Sole is markedly superior to that of any Linn steel sub-chassis. Remember,  the only source of energy we wish to amplify is that of the record groove modulations that excite the stylus and cantilever of the cartridge. The materials used in the manufacture of the Sole sub-chassis  play their part in reducing and eliminating  unwanted vibrational energy from getting back to the stylus record groove interface. This unwanted, (structure and airborne) vibrational energy  has a detrimental effect  that "colours"  sound,  by interfering with or even adding to the signal.

Do a simple  "tap test" with a standard Linn pressed steel chassis and it will ring like a tuning fork;  this cannot  be beneficial!  Some will say it is not important and Linn have designed this in, but we disagree. Why?  Because Linn have to use a "lossy" connection between their  ringing steel sub-chassis and their arm-board.  Do this  admittedly subjective "tap test" with our chassis and you will hear far less ringing from a Sole sub-chassis,  the energy decaying far more rapidly.  The proof of our philosophy is in the performance of the Sole.  We have found the standard pressed steel sub-chassis and the method of attaching the arm-board leaves much to be desired.

Additionally, the design of the bearing mounting point on the Sole presents a massive thickness.  Ours is one of strongest mounting interfaces currently available anywhere.

The improved means of attaching your arm-board enables the purchaser to use alternative manufacturers tone-arms if so desired.  Additionally, the methods employed by Analogue Innovation for mounting the main bearing and arm-board to the Sole are aesthetically pleasing and very well engineered so as to effectively decouple the entire assembly, creating a virtual one-piece structure.

The Sole sub-chassis offers the opportunity of enhanced musical enjoyment to LP12 owners at a realistic price.
